The Mark Of The Beast



The mark of the beast is one of the most controversial issues in the church world today. This mark can be found in Revelation 13:16



“And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:”



To get started we’ll address the “he” who causes this mark to be received. Firstly, the word “he” is a masculine pronoun. The problem with this is that the pronoun “he” refers back to the noun “beast,” which is neuter gender. At no time is the beast sex revealed. As a matter of fact, this word beast, in the original language (Greek) is a neuter noun, not masculine. This is grammatically incorrect; defying set rules of language. The beast is an “it,” not an “he.” This is another issue altogether, but is pertinent to this issue. Of course, this inaccurate translation has allowed the so-called church to propagate their male anti-Christ figure, whose arrival they desperately await. I only thought it fitting to bring it up at this point to make it clear that this beast isn’t necessarily a man, singular. While it is comprised of men, even having a man for an head, it isn’t one man. It’s a system. Many want to think of this beast as “the” anti-Christ; I’m fine with that, but the Word says there are many anti-Christ, as opposed to “one.” The scriptures proclaim that the “mystery of iniquity doth already work” (2Thess. 2). And, if it already was working in Paul’s day, how can it be that we still await for it?


Daniel seven contains four beast, Revelation thirteen contains two. What men do they identify with those beast as antichrist? None! Have you ever heard anyone call Alexander the great “the” antichrist? No, of course not. That wouldn’t align with their current doctrine which says he, the anti-Christ, is yet to come. It’s stupid really. The scriptures proclaim there are many antichrist (1John 2:18). It never points to any particular one in order to identify it. It does, however, point to anti-Christ systems, which are comprised of all people; not just one man. While these beast all had heads; men who ruled them, and as such were antichrist, none are called “the” antichrist.

In order to understand this mark more adequately one must refer to the scriptures. We cannot take one scripture and proclaim to have an understanding without first studying the various other scriptures which speak of such an mark. Are there any? Yes! God didn’t just throw this in the scripture without first setting a precedent for it earlier in scripture.


Many today believe that with the modern day technological advances that have been made this mark is now more eminent than ever. They fear a computer chip of some sort which will be inserted into either their right hand or their forehead; or a rubber stamp which includes the number 666, how ridiculous. The trouble with this thinking is that God has already spoken of the identity of this mark. To my dismay, many have this mark today, and are completely unaware of it due to their ignorance on the subject. If only they would study to show themselves approved, workmen that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.





Identifying the mark



Several old testament scriptures testify to the identity of this mark. In Ezekiel 9 we read,

Ezekiel 9:1-8

“1He cried also in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause them that have charge over the city to draw near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand. 2And, behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate, which lieth toward the north, and every man a slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man among them was clothed with linen, with a writer's inkhorn by his side: and they went in, and stood beside the brasen altar.

3And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, whereupon he was, to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer's inkhorn by his side; 4And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof. 5And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: 6Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house. 7And he said unto them, Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain: go ye forth. And they went forth, and slew in the city. 8And it came to pass, while they were slaying them, and I was left, that I fell upon my face, and cried, and said, Ah Lord GOD! wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel in thy pouring out of thy fury upon Jerusalem?


Here we see God commanding what appears to be an angel to “set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.” God himself commanded this mark to be set. This mark, just as the mark of the beast, identifies those that worship false gods; in the case of Revelations mark, the beast. Yes, the beast is a false god/s system. It is an idolatrous system which replaces the one true God with pagan gods. God is marking those who commit idolatry in order to destroy them. This is the scriptural precedent that was set before God revealed to John the beast’s mark. It is identical to the beast mark; going in the forehead.


Right Hand or Forehead


According to the scriptural account concerning the mark of the beast this mark goes in one of two places. It goes either on the right hand or the forehead. What does this mean? Let us examine what God says about his mark. In the book of Exodus we read,


Exodus 13:6-10


“6Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to the LORD. 7Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days; and there shall no leavened bread be seen with thee, neither shall there be leaven seen with thee in all thy quarters. 8And thou shalt shew thy son in that day, saying, This is done because of that which the LORD did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt. 9And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thine hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes, that the LORD'S law may be in thy mouth: for with a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt. 10Thou shalt therefore keep this ordinance in his season from year to year.”



Here, God, commands the Israelites to keep his commands concerning the unleavened bread so that they can be a sign unto them upon their hands (working the law), a memorial between their eyes (mind stayed upon God’s commands). This is identical to the mark of the beast, only in opposition of the mark of the beast. You have one or the other.


In Deuteronomy 6:4-9


4Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: 5And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. 6And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. 8And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. 9And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.”
 

Once again we see that God commands his people to bind them for a sign (his law, as it is the context) upon their HANDS, and they are said to be the FRONTLETS BETWEEN THE EYES (forehead, the seat of thought). If you have your mind stayed on God’s law or commands, it’s easier to bind them for a sign on your hands (to bind God’s law on your hand for a sign simply means to obey his commands; by their fruits you shall know them). In other words, when God’s law/commands are the frontlet of your eyes (front of the mind, being in remembrance to you) they are then a sign on your hands (seen in your works).

In Deuteronomy 11:18



“Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.”




Once again we see God’s message concerning this mark. You see, there are two marks which identify you as either an idolater or a servant of God. Here, yet again, we see God commanding his people to remember his laws and do them. This is a sign between them and God. This is God’s mark on his servants. James once said,


James 1:22-25



“22But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”




A hearer of the word who forgets doesn’t bind it on his hands (what he hears, and claims to believe, isn‘t seen in his works. He forgot what manner of man he was; going away and returning to his sin). Just as James said,


James 2:18



“Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.”



One who hears the law understands what it is saying; the spiritual application. But when he goes about his business, if he doesn’t have God’s law as the frontlet of his eyes, his works will prove him one way or the other. James says, essentially, “show me your faith by your works.” You say you believe God; do what he commands. Jesus said,


Luke 6:46



“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”



If you’re not doing what the perfect law of God (Christ) says, he is not your Lord. Why do you call him Lord and disobey him? Why do you take his name in vain? How can one claim to have bound God’s law on his hands while he disobeys God? This individual does not love the Lord God with all his heart. If he did he would make God’s commands the frontlet of his eyes and bind them on his hands; in doing them. Sadly, many today claim to love God, never being obedient to his commands. They love the world, their fathers, mothers, brothers, children, and their own lives more than God. They have saved their lives, and, thus, lost their life. Jesus said,


Mark 8:35

 

“For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.”



Have you lost your life yet? Are you crucifying yourself daily, as Christ said was necessary to be his disciple?


Luke 9:23



“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”



If you’re not doing this, you’re taking the mark of the beast. You’ve already been marked. You will wait vainly for the “verichip” so many are waiting for. This computer chip has nothing to do with the mark of the beast.


Many will say I’m preaching a gospel of works. My reply is simple. God commands us to do certain works in order to be justified in his sight, does he not. Does the scriptures not say,



1Corinthians 6:9-11


“9Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”



Do you think you can practice sin and inherit the kingdom of heaven? I think not. The scriptures state emphatically that you will not. Does the scripture not say,


Galatians 5:22-24


“22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.”




Are these not works? Is meekness not a work. Is temperance not a work? How about gentleness? Works are subsequent to faith, just as James said.


James 2:18


“Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.”



Was not Abraham counted righteous because he believed God and obeyed Him? Obedience requires works. These works aren’t what saves men; Christ alone has saved his church by giving them “saving” faith, which is a gift of God (Ephesians 2:8). Without such faith a man can no more do the works required of God than can a new born babe eat meat. Hence, most have not faith. At least not the faith that is a gift from God. If they did, they would obey God. Even Christ pointed this out in Luke 6:46 and again in John 8:39-47.




It may seem we have gotten off topic somewhat. I assure you this is necessary in order to explain this “mark” of the beast. I hope you have already seen the point I’m trying to make. If not, I fear you never will. God’s will be done.



Two Marks



As has already been pointed out, there are two marks mentioned in scripture. One from God, the other belonging to the beast. As has already been clearly demonstrated, God’s mark consist of,


Law being frontlet of the eyes (front of mind, seat of thought)
Law being bound to hands (subsequent works)



You cannot have one without the other in this case. If your mind is stayed on God’s law/commands you will do the works required by God. If not, you will fall into sin. You cannot do God’s command without first having them at the front of your mind. In Revelation 7:3-4



“3Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

4And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.”



This is adequate I believe to prove that the forehead (the seat of the mind/thought) is sealed with God’s law. Once God applies his seal, you’ll do his works. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Faith, therefore, starts in the mind. When the mind is convinced, the works begin. Without faith, which God gives, no man can be saved. It is the work of God, not of man. (Ephesians 2:8)


The beast’s mark is as follows.


Revelation 13:16


“And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:”




                              
                                  

 Now this beast’s mark can be in either of the two places. What does this mean? Obviously, many will take this mark out of shear fear of death or some other form of punishment. That being said, while they don’t entirely agree with this beast, they agree to do the works of it. Maybe they disagree with the beast on a few points, not taking it’s mark in their forehead, but still going along with it in their works (hands) out of fear. On the other hand, if you take it in the forehead (the seat of thought/mind) you will subsequently do the works (mark in hand).


In summary we will conclude with a few final thoughts. Many are awaiting the arrival of this beast. They believe it to be connected to a future system which will shortly arrive. It is my contention (the scriptures say the mystery of iniquity doth already work (2Thess. 2:7) why must we wait for a future event?) this beast has been on the scene for a very long time, the first beast that is. The second beast not as long, but very much in place today. While I am not at liberty to discuss this today in this article, I will address it in the coming months, Lord willing.


Obviously God has a few elect in Babylon, hence,


Revelation 18:4


“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.”



It is my contention that this calling out is happening today. Those who continue in Babylon will be destroyed with her. She, yes she, is an apostate church; a counterfeit better describes her or a beast. Everyone in her will take this mark, or rather has taken it. I believe that I have adequately explained this mark, what it is, how it works etc. That being said, people better start studying their scriptures. Christ is returning very soon. May he show you his truth, according to his good will.
